Magnum Parterre Chardonnay 2021

Magnum Parterre Chardonnay 2021

Pale straw with lime green hues. Aromas of citrus, cumquat, pineapple, citrus blossom, white peach. Lime and lemon juice with an almond glossiness and a whisper of lactose. The acidity and pH sets this up as a long term cellaring prospect which will develop a touch of richness as it matures. Should develop further complexity with 10-12 years careful cellaring.

Gold medal, The James Halliday Challenge

"One taste and a laser lightshow starts up. This is so racy, juicy and succulent it speeds across the palate. Stop. Reflect. Grapefruit and Meyer lemon, a smidge of creamy lees and lemon curd texture, plus wood spices with the oak seamless. Mostly, it’s mouth-watering, flinty, fine and exceptionally long. Wonderful wine."

"Clive Otto, winemaker at Fraser Gallop, is responsible for the pristine, pure and very fine-boned house style of Chardonnay that they are becoming known for. Couple this with the cooler year that was 2021, and we are met by a wine with poise, precision and finesse in spades. What a beauty the 2021 Parterre Chardonnay is. Juicy, glass-shard acidity is couched in very soft, enveloping orchard fruit, and spooling out through the finish is a string of briney acidity. This is a gorgeous wine, perhaps shorter lived than some of its predecessors, but it will never hang around long enough for us to find out. Handpicked, whole-bunch pressed Gingin clone, fermented wild in French oak (60/40 puncheons and barriques), matured for 10 months (33% new)."

-Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate, 95 pts

"A wine showing the intensity of the region with the distinctive linear traits of this vintage. It results in a beautiful defined elegant chardonnay. Has a lift of cut pear and citrus with a slight nutty melon combination. The palate is fine and long with a subtle flinty character. Really attractive wine."

"Plenty of perfume, a sort of thyme and lavender thing, cashew and almond, a little spicy oak. It’s tight and zesty, lime and pink grapefruit, maybe some green apple, intense acidity, a fine powdery/flinty texture, and a tight and racy grapefruit finish of excellent length. A lot of energy and vigour, and best with a year or so more in bottle to settle."

- Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 94+ pts

"Lovely bright, pithy stone and citrus fruit. Fine, tense and long with salivating acidity. Though not showy, there is a sense of confidence to the wine. Chablis like style, fresh and focused."

"A vibrant chardonnay with aromas of peaches, white grapefruits, salted almonds and lemons. It’s medium-bodied with a refreshing salinity beautifully combined with fleshy, just-ripe fruit. Vegan. Delicious now. Screw cap."

- James Suckling, 93 pts

"A bright lemon to straw yellow with ripe yellow peach and cashew nut aromas in the glass. Medium weighted with a creamy nuance over the stone fruit core. Hints of smoky oak sit in the background and add a sense of class to the flow. Well driven by fine acidity, it carries long and crisp to the finish."

- The Real Review, 93 pts

"As is typical for Fraser Gallop Estate, the fruit was handpicked, whole bunch pressed, wild yeast fermented and matured in high quality oak. These techniques, each leave finger print on style, but have mostly been used to coax and frame a very powerful fruit expression that is never present in this 2021 wine. Nectarine and grapefruit reverberate across the palate, pithy and crisp. Natural acidity holds the tension through a long finish."
